Salt Lake City Library
DESCRIPTION
The Salt Lake City Public Library system's main branch building is an architecturally unique structure located across from the Salt Lake City and County Building and Washington Square.
Steel Encounters worked in a design assist capacity with local architectural firm, VCBO, to furnish and install a custom lens wall, curtain walls, and other specialty glazing systems. Steel Encounters has completed other updates to the space since 2004.
The library's facade is "semi-famous" as a stop on Oakland, California's "Bandaloop" schedule that includes dancers who perform choreographed routines on the glass facade annually as part of events such as the Utah Arts Festival.
Additionally, the library's partnership with the City and its beekeepers began in 2010, establishing the city as one of the first public libraries to house honey bees. The hives produce between 75 and 250 pounds of honey annually that is shared at public events and has even graced the Utah State Fair.
