Project Description
The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is undergoing a multi-year, comprehensive transformation. This phased expansion ensures continued airport operations throughout the construction period.
Phase 1 of the project included the construction of a new central terminal, parking garage, and concourses A-west and B-west. Phase 1 opened in September 2020.
In Phase 2, the airport added additional shops and restaurants, as well as additional gates to new destinations. Phase 2 also included the build-out of Concourse A to the east with 22 gates. The new gates opened in the fall/winter of 2023.
Phase 3 included the opening of the Central Tunnel which connects A and B concourses, as well as a unique art installation called "The River Tunnel" by Artist, Gordon Huether. In addition, Phase 3 includes the main entry point from the tunnel to Concourse B, which is a mini-plaza complete with large-scale art installations by Huether.
A unique aspect of Phase 3 included the location of the infamous world map from the lobby of Terminal 1 to Concourse B. Since 1961, thousands of passengers have walked "around the world" by simply passing through Terminal 1 at the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).
