The Newly Formed Utah Glass Association
Updated: Aug 3, 2019
Professionals in the glazing industry joined in March 2019 to create the Utah Glass Association, a local chapter of the National Glass Association.
It has long been discussed that in order to "elevate the image of glass as a viable, thriving and exciting career path" and to maintain the level and quality of professionals needed to take the glass industry into the next century, that Utah required it's own education chapter.
The glazing profession is one requiring training and expertise in areas such as:
Identifying and using different glazing materials and coatings
Installing glass in storefronts, doors, windows, ceilings, and more
Setting up and using welding equipment to combine and cut pieces of glass
Reading and interpreting blueprints or specifications to determine which types of glass to use and how to install them
Understanding the criteria of LEED, the national green building standard, and how it relates to blueprints, windows, and types of glass
Creating and installing metal or glass moldings
The primary goal of the Utah Glass Association is to mirror the goals of the National Glass Association; To educate and promote the glazing industry.
Educate: Drive excellence, safety, and results through education and training.
Promote: Elevate the image of glass as a safe, healthy, sustainable and inspiring building product and advance the industry as a viable, thriving and exciting career path.
Advocate: Be a strong advocate to defend and promote the glass industry.
Grow: Build UGA's membership to develop influence, impact and results.
Josh Lipman, UGA Interim Chapter Administrator, announced the inaugural Board of Directors. These professionals bring a collective 200 years of glass / glazing industry experience to the chapter.
