LARRY FORD, PROJECT MGR
Steel Encounters, Inc. of Salt Lake City congratulates Larry Ford, Project Manager, for earning his LEED Green Associate accreditation through the Green Building Certification Institute. Larry began his career in Northern California in 1976 and joined Steel Encounters in 2003. Since that time, Larry has managed many high profile and complex projects for Steel Encounters, most recently at the City Creek Center (a retail centerpiece of one of the nation’s largest mixed-use downtown redevelopment projects in SLC, UT) including the retractable skylight, cable net end walls, and multiple office towers. Congratulations Larry!

Rodrigo Gonzalez, LEED Green Associate
Congratulations to Rodrigo Gonzalez, Project Engineer, Steel Encounters Salt Lake City operation, for earning his LEED Green Associate accreditation through the Green Building Certification Institute. Prior to joining Steel Encounters Gonzalez earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering from the INCAP-Universidad Tecnologica de Chile. Gonzalez is currently working on the Adobe Omniture Headquarters project in Lehi, Utah, a facility designed to achieve LEED status later this year. This accreditation furthers Steel Encounters commitment to build the most environmentally progressive and energy-efficient buildings possible.
Magnuson Park Picnic Shelter Rebuild project
Skanska’s Community Involvement Committee volunteers and subcontractor partners have teamed to deconstruct and rebuild the Magnuson Park Picnic Shelter, which sits on a splendid mile-long stretch of Lake Washington’s shoreline in northeast Seattle. Steel Encounters is donating steel deck to this effort. This project is part of our mission to contribute to building a stronger community by providing opportunities for employee volunteerism and philanthropic giving. Bradley Baker, LEED Green Associate
We are pleased to congratulate Bradley Baker of our Salt Lake City, Utah operation, for earning his LEED Green Associate accreditation through the Green Building Certification Institute. Brad graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Building Construction Management in 1988, and today he manages critical projects for Steel Encounters, including the recently completed Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Building, a LEED project, for the University of Utah and Layton Construction.
Steel Encounters is committed to supporting our customers in building the most environmentally progressive and energy-efficient buildings possible, and the U.S. Green Building Council LEED project certification is elevating the industry standard in this area.
Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Bldg, LEED
This fantastic project is now complete. This 200,000 SF USTAR facility is the first of four buildings on the former site of the University of Utah’s golf course, a research complex that will connect Health Sciences on the upper campus and the College of Engineering on the lower campus. The facility is designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold certification. Several energy-saving design measures were incorporated, including rooftop gardens on much of the structure. Traverse Mountain Retail Outlets
March 19, 2012 – Our scope of work at the Traverse Mountain Retail Outlets encompasses over 56,000 sf of glazed skylights over the street plaza. The outlets are just 30 miles south of Salt Lake City in Lehi where Steel Encounters is also completing the Adobe Omniture Building.

Ann brings over 31 years of experience to this role, 15 of that with Steel Encounters. Ann oversees the Steel Encounters Detailing and Engineering staff and consultants, ensures drawing and material interface and dimensional accuracy. Prior to joining Steel Encounters, Ann was Owner of a specialty subcontracting firm, as well as working as a Drafter, Estimator, Project Engineer and Project Manager. Ann is currently managing high profile projects throughout Utah. Congratulations Ann!

eBay plans to expand it’s operations to Draper, Utah. The company’s new operations are slated to generate an additional $127 million in state tax revenue over the next twenty years, and employ as many as 2,200 people.
Live Construction Updates
STEELENCOUNTERS live construction updates for the new Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial Commons Building at Dixie State College. Construction is scheduled to be completed in June of 2012.
